Hello. I wanted to stop by and let you know who I am and what I’ve been doing in the community. I am a musician on the coast that has worked closely with students from the Alternative School in the past doing music and sound workshops. I am currently running a six week program of sound workshops at Kinnickinnick school in Sechelt working with all the students from K to 7. It has been a powerful and revelatory experience for me, and I have received great feedback and much encouragement from the students as well as the faculty. I am looking to further this experience and hope to offer full time workshops available to youth on the coast. More than learning how to play music, my workshops aim to put children in a space where they learn how to listen and appreciate all sounds, and far from the road they are led down through peers and media, music is something that they can be a part of and that listening is an active process rather than a passive one. I also teach performance with a an overall goal of bringing excitement to the process rather than focusing on the outcome. I am looking to meet with others interested in facilitating these ideas and plan to continue this inspiring work. I can be contacted at thinmanrecords@hotmail.com

Thank you Gwen for giving me the information about this blog. I am glad you stopped by yesterday to see the Strong Start Center. Although I am not much of a writer. I do value what others have to say and hoepfully this forum will get me expressing myself as well. I look forward to working with you on the 28th. I am not sure really how to post things properly so any suggestions would be great.
